    Michelle Robson had spent six years flying all over the world to look after horses for Olympic event rider Shane Rose when she won her award. Shane said of her: "She is completely dedicated to the horses and works tirelessly to ensure that they are all cared for. She is not afraid of hard work and does it all with a smile."

  • Darlene Milord (HAI) Winner of the Against All Odds Award 2009

    The first winner of the Against All Odds Award blossomed through her contact with horses and the Special Needs Riding Programme of Haiti – an idea that came from a discussion at the FEI General Assembly in 2004. Darlene Milord is an orphan and suffers from the condition Hemiplegia, which affects the right side of her body. Her love for horses and determination to succeed have led her to compete at Special Olympics events.

    Known as the “one in 1.3 billion” in the Chinese media in the lead-up the 2008 Olympic Games, 19-year-old Alex Hua Tian is China’s first international Eventing rider. He represented his country under unbelievable press scrutiny and pressure.

  • Wendy Gidlow (RSA) winner of the Alltech Development Award 2009

    Wendy Gidlow owns and manages the South African organisation Heritage Equestrian, which enables children from extremely underprivileged backgrounds to work with horses and ride. Wendy picks them up from school, gives them lunch, teaches them and pays their taxi fares home. A real commitment, in both time and money.

  • Meredith Michaels Beerbaum (GER) Winner of the Best Athlete Award 2009

    American-born German Jumping rider Meredith Michaels Beerbaum and Shutterfly won the Rolex FEI World Cup™ final three times. Meredith was the first woman to ride in a German championship Jumping team and top the FEI Jumping world rankings and has twice been on gold medal winning teams at the European Championships.
